10 DAYS
THE ESSENTIAL
GAY JAPAN
ESSENTIAL
ROUTE
Tokyo gives you the country’s largest and most varied gay nightlife scene.
Kyoto changes the pace completely: temples, old streets, craft, gardens and a Japan that does not need to revolve around nightlife.
Osaka brings food, personality, Doyama and a very different urban rhythm.
Then Fukuoka takes you south to Kyushu: a compact city, yatai, Sumiyoshi, local gay nightlife and another version of Japan entirely.
FOUR
CITIES.
TOKYO
Ni-chome, Asakusa, Shibuya, Harajuku, culture, wellness and Japan’s largest gay scene.
TOKYO →KYOTO
Higashiyama, Gion, Arashiyama and two days where slowing down becomes part of the itinerary.
KYOTO →OSAKA
Dotonbori, Namba, Shinsekai, food and late nights around Doyama.
OSAKA →FUKUOKA
Hakata, Tenjin, yatai, Sumiyoshi and the gay culture of Japan’s southwest.
FUKUOKA →
KEEP
MOVING
WEST.
Tokyo in. Fukuoka out. If your airfare allows it.
This itinerary moves in one direction: Tokyo → Kyoto → Osaka → Fukuoka.
An open-jaw flight avoids spending the final day returning all the way to Tokyo.
If you already have a Tokyo round-trip ticket, simply add enough time to return before your flight.
FOUR
BASES.
SHINJUKU
Easy transport, restaurants and walking access to Shinjuku Ni-chome.
CENTRAL / HIGASHIYAMA
Choose transport convenience or atmosphere. Both work well for a two-night stay.
UMEDA
Excellent for trains and particularly convenient for Doyama nightlife.
HAKATA / TENJIN
Fukuoka is compact. Hakata is excellent for transport; Tenjin places you closer to shopping and nightlife.
